In Freedom's Footsteps: Juneteenth Community History Walk
In partnership with and , the Willamette Heritage Center will host a community history walk through downtown Salem on the Juneteenth holiday that will bring to life the stories of longtime Salem residents Albert and Mary Ann Bayless and their family and friends.
The walk will start and end at the Willamette Heritage Center (1313 Mill St SE). Free parking in the museum’s lot is available. The full walk spans a three mile loop through downtown Salem and returning to the museum. Participants interested in a shorter version can turn back after the first stop (the site of Albert and Mary Ann’s home) for a 1.23 mile loop. Maps will be available on site and digitally on the for additional accessibility options.
Liberty Bicycle Rodeo
Liberty Elementary School students and community members are invited to learn and practice their bicycle safety skills! We will have bicycle safety stations set up, the Northwest Hub will be providing bicycle safety checks, and Trinity Covenant Church will have food and beverages.

Walking Bus with Salem Police Department
Safe Routes to School is comprised of six E’s: Engagement, Engineering, Education, Equity, Encouragement, and Evaluation. It is my pleasure to grow the Salem-Keizer Safe Routes to School program through engagement within our community. Engagement is, “connecting directly with students, parents, teachers, and community members to hear their needs and to work together on designing programs that will authentically benefit their schools and build connections with local resources.”
Safe Routes to School will welcome Salem Police Department as we walk to school with Washington Elementary School and Community Members.
Spring Art Contest Deadline
Entries to our third annual Safe Routes to School art contest are due today by 5 p.m. All K–5 students at Salem-Keizer Public Schools are eligible to participate. Visit our 2023 Art Contest page for rules and guidelines.
Salem History Walk: Qing Ming Festival
Join Just Walk Salem-Keizer at the corner of Hoyt St S and Skopil Ave S for a half-hour ramble through Salem Pioneer Cemetery. The walk will culminate at the Chinese funerary table, where Salem's annual Qing Ming Festival begins at 11. Stay for the ninety-minute celebration or continue to explore the cemetery on your own.
Spring Art Contest Launch
Our second annual Safe Routes to School art contest will begin accepting entries from K–5 students at Salem-Keizer Public Schools. Visit our 2023 Art Contest page for details on how to participate.
Winter Walk + Roll to School Day
Does the cold, rainy weather discourage you from walking and rolling to school? Join your neighbors, classmates, and friends to face the weather together! On this day, students all over the country put on their cold weather gear and brave the elements as a community. Holiday Lights Walk
Join Just Walk Salem-Keizer for a tour of the Keizer Miracle of Christmas Lights Display on foot.
Meet at the Gubser Elementary School parking lot at 6610 14th Ave NE for a family-friendly two-mile stroll.
Keizer Miracle of Christmas Lights Display accepts cash and non-perishable food in support of the Marion-Polk Food Share.

NORTHWEST HUB ANNOUNCES THE 8TH ANNUAL CRANKSGIVING
A BICYCLE FOOD DRIVE SUPPORTING MARION-POLK FOOD SHARE
Bring your bicycle and enough grocery money to collect Thanksgiving-themed food items at local grocery stores. Bring a helmet, lock, and bag or backpack to haul your items around.
This is an “alleycat” style event on public roads where riders determine the most efficient or fun course for themselves.
